Cut two pieces of 24g wire into two - one pair slightly longer than the other. Put the four wires alongside each other, allowing the two longer wires to protrude approximately 1/2 in. Start to tape where the four wires meet and tape to the bottom of the stem.

Use tweezers to make a hook with the two uncovered wires.

Make some cones of white paste, with a very pointed tip and a rounded bottom (as a guide, place cone at the base of the smaller cutter (R2). Moisten the hook with water or egg white and push well up into the cone, allow them to dry thoroughly - a few days if possible.

Roll out white paste very thinly (at least until you can see the colour of the board through it) and cut out one petal, moisten it and wrap it around the cone. Ensure the petal is tightly wrapped around the tip of the cone so that you get a tiny circle at the top.

Cut out three small petals and place two under the plastic mat whilst working on the other. Ball each one in turn and moisten diagonally across each petal. Fix the first petal on one side, then interleaf the others so that three petals form a circle of uncurved shapes.
